Podcasts on Amateur Radio
Reading time: 3 minutesI’ve been listening to podcasts since 2006, I started with a short set comprising some shows like The Memory Palace, This American Life, Point of Inquiry, and BBC’s In Our Time (a radio show that later converted to a podcast).
There are many podcasts that are easily available on-line now1, here are a bunch of podcasts2 that I have encountered3 on Amateur Radio (in no particular order),
- Linux in the Ham Shack: This is the podcast that incentivised me to go and get my license this year. Head over to their website, to see everything about being an amateur radio operator and using FOSS. They also have a wonderful little section on the website with show notes, an RSS feed, and many other goodies on their site.
- Store and Forward: A new podcast and as the hosts say it is about their journey and is “a podcast about the past and future of ham radio”.
- Ham Radio Workbench Podcast: I came across this podcast when trying to search for home-brewing communities, projects and setting up a shack. They also provide a direct RSS feed.
- The European Ham Radio Show: This follows the format of a video conversation that is also a podcast and discuss a bunch of topics that are useful for new entrants like me. You can find their feed at Acast.
- Ham Radio Crash Course: They have a bunch of stuff and produce a lot of useful content in the form of videos, guides and seem to also have some exam prep modules. You can also find the podcast’s RSS feed from Podbean.
- Ham Radio 2.0: Largely video focussed with reviews, etc. but you can find the RSS feed too.
- The Ham Radio Clubhouse: Yet another video stream with discussions between operators that is streamed, an RSS feed is available.
- ICQ Amateur / Ham Radio Podcast: Yet another OG podcast from 2008, they are a treasure trove of information and provide their own RSS feed.
- Ham Radio All Portable Discussion Zone: If you are interested in portable operations, this is a bunch of useful resources and links, you can get their RSS feed from anchor.fm.
- W1DED Worldwide Ham Radio: This is an interesting format where they speak with radio operators from across the world, and their RSS feed is available from Podbean.
- The Ham Radio Guy: Yet another podcast aimed at new HAMs like me, it focuses on new radios, tools and changes to rules (US focussed). The nice part is it comes with the RSS feed.
- Ham Radio 360: An oldie that is now folded into Ham Radio Workbench, but has some useful resources (RSS feed).
- CQ Blind Hams: This is for Blind and Visually Impaired Amateur Radio Operators, they have reviews, tutorials and demos. It is a wonderful resource and the focus on accessibility also means you can multi-task with it like a podcast. They also have their RSS feed through Anchor.fm.
As you can see most of the podcasts either cater to the North American region or the western part of the world, I would love some VU focused podcasts or podcasts that are from the eastern part of the world.
Many of them also run Discord servers and have accompanying Youtube channels that are easy to find. ↩︎
Head over to Podcast Index to find the RSS feed for most podcasts if you need an RSS feed rather than using a lock-in platform to listen to podcasts. ↩︎
I do not listen to all of these, so this is not a recommendation. ↩︎
